What Is Vicodin?
Generic name of vicodin is acetaminophen and hydrocodone.
Brand Names: Dolorex Forte, Anexsia, Hycet, Lorcet, Liquicet, Maxidone, Polygesic, Norco, Vicodin, Stagesic, Xodol, Zydone
Vicodin is generally found in tablet form and having the names such as "Vicodin", "Vicodin ES", or "Vicodin" is printed on one side. Pain killer with same physical and chemical compositions are found under the many trade names containing Anexsia, Bancap HC, Anolor DH5, Hydro, Dolacet, Lorcet, Norco, Lortab, Vadunk and T-Gesic.
Explanation of drug:
For the oral administration, hydrocodone bitartrate and acetaminophen is provided in tablet form.
Hydrocodone bitartrate is an antitussive and opioid analgesic and appears as white crystals or crystalline powder. It gets affected by the light. The chemical name of vicodin is 4,5a -epoxy-3-methoxy-17-methylmorphinan-6-one tartrate (1:1) hydrate (2:5). The structural formula of it is as shown below:
Acetaminophen, 4'-hydroxyacetanilide, odorless, white, a quite bitter, crystalline powder, is a non-salicylate analgesic, non-opiate, and antipyretic. Structural formula of it is as shown below:
Every Vicodin tablet includes:
- Acetaminophen 500 mg
- Hydrocodone Bitartrate 5 mg
What is Vicodin?
Vicodin is tablet that contains the combination of hydrocodone and acetaminophen. Hydrocodone is contained in one group of drugs called as narcotic pain relievers.
Vicodin is use for relieving the pains. Vicodin can use for other purposes also.
Important information about Vicodin:
If vicodin is prescribed then tell to doctor if u takes alcoholic beverages more than 3 times per day or suffering from alcoholic liver diseases (cirrhosis). Avoid the medications which contain the acetaminophen.
Hydrocodone can be habit forming drug and must be taken by only that person to whom it is prescribed for. Always keep medications in secure place. Vicodin may also cause some side effects that can damage your reactions or thinking. If medicine stops working as well as not minimizing the pain then tells to doctor.
Precautions before taking the Vicodin:
If you have allergies of hydrocodone or acetaminophen then don't use the vicodin. Hydrocodone can be habit forming drug and must be taken by only that person to whom it is prescribed for. It is not given to another person specially those who have drug abuse or the addiction history. Keep medication secure.
If you have allergies of drugs then tell to doctor or if you have:
- Asthma, sleep apnea, COPD, or breathing disorders;
- Kidney or liver disease;
- Low blood pressure;
- A history of brain tumor or head injury;
- A intestinal or stomach disorder;
- Addison's disease or adrenal gland disorder;
- Underactive thyroid;
- Mental illness;
- Curvature of the spine;
- A history of alcohol or drug addiction.
